Roger has volunteered to lead a nice relaxed trip out of Holland Park to go see the City of Hollywood paint the sky.

LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
We will launch from Holland Park and do a casual grand tour of West Lake as the sun sets, returning to Holland Park a little before 9PM to watch the fireworks launched from Hollywood Beach. We will probably watch from the area between the ramp and the Intracoastal waterway. The park closes as soon as they can once the fireworks are over, so don't plan on more paddling.
WHAT TO BRING
Lights, bug spray, PFD, whistle, water or other beverages, snacks.
Fishing rod if you want - license required and snook are out of season.

DO NOT attempt to light any fireworks or sparklers from the (flammable) kayaks. There will be enough misadventures from kids aiming at us from shore... :-)

WEATHER
It's the time of year again when weather can be a factor in trips - especially afternoon/early evening trips.
Here are the ground rules:
- Lightning clearly visible from the launch site - we don't launch.
- Visible flash followed by thunder within 30 seconds (6 miles) - we don't launch.
- 30 minutes must elapse between last lightning/thunder before we start the trip.
- If we get caught out in a mild electrical storm in the Fort Lauderdale urban area, we're pretty safe, but will seek appropriate shelter immediately. Heavy lightning storms will accelerate this process.
- If it's just raining, heavy or light, we're paddling - did you expect to stay dry??
KAYAK RENTALS
Kayak rentals will not be available, but some folks might have a 'yak to share or a spare seat in a tandem - post it in your RSVP if you're in need or can share!

PARKING
There is a limited amount of free parking at Holland Park - be early to get it. There is also master meter parking in the boat launch area. If you arrive late, there may not be parking at all. The backup launch site would be the public boat ramp at 830 Polk St. Bring quarters for meters and cash for master meter parking.
