This trip is on the Rio Grande from TorC to Caballo Lake. This is about a 13 mile trip. It should all be flat, moving water (no guarantees how fast it will be moving!). Some of the group did this section a few weeks ago and said it was very scenic. Might even get to see the elusive Rio Grande Hippo if you are lucky!

Please bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks, appropriate clothing including dry clothes, paddling equipment (boat, PFD, paddle, etc). Also, rain gear just in case. If you need to borrow equipment let me know. There are members who have extra to share.

Folks coming from the south will be meeting at the Kmart in Las Cruces at 8am and for the folks coming from the north you should e-mail me to arrange a meeting place and time. My cell number is [masked] or e-mail me through this site.

Keep in mind that we will have to shuttle cars and boats and that will take a little bit of time. This particular shuttle will be easy so it shouldn't take too long. The put-in and take-out both are nice 'beachy' areas. So no climbing up or down hills with your kayak.

This should be a great trip and a wonderful opportunity to get to know fellow desert kayakers!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

Thanks, Liz

PS I am considering camping at Lake Caballo the night before or after. If you are interested, let me know. The south side of Caballo have camping with showers and restrooms. The northern side, not so much!

Enjoy your trip! For the after kayak...I recommend Cafe Bella Luca in T or C. Great Pizza/Calzones and Italian Food [masked] Reservations Sat 11am -10pm . Also go do one of the hot springs for a soak...mmmmm....Caballo Lake is definitely a better camping experience especially with any wind vs. Elephant Butte.

    •  I'm glad that we got to see the other 13 miles down the Rio Grande. The views were great as well as the company.

The kayaking was great, followed by some great eats and the camping was also great and the ghost stories were awesome.
